Victorian Punchwork Memorial
Description
Victorian Punchwork MemorialWhile punch paper embroideries (punchwork) were a common womens craft in the Victorian era, I have found precious few with memorial or mourning subject matter. This is one of the most poignant Ive had in my care: It comes to me from England, and I wish I could tell you more about the family, but sadly that story is long since lost. Beside a gravestone is the rebus motto, We all fade as a (leaf) above the better known, He is not dead but sleepeth.
Fits 12” of books & extends to about 20”
Beautifully presented in its original lemon gold frame
published by the American Tract Society
The figure is heavily embossed
Box measures about 9
who died in 1790
Condition is good overall with some issues: There is a split between the first two pages
Dated 1870s
The pages are quite fragile
or whatever else needs an elegant little home on your vanity table
Some sun fading to both print and wings
and I hope it does the same for its new owner
