Suikaen Tanimura Yasuburo: Shiratake White Bamboo Chasen Matcha Whisk 80-prong 白竹茶筌 八十本Curled tips indicate that the whisk is new and prevent the tips from breaking off before use. Once the curled tips are uncurled by soaking in hot water, they should look the the "shin" whisks. They are made to have approximately 80 prongs. The "white" bamboo used for the whisk itself is henon bamboo (hachiku ) that has had its color removed through traditional, centuries old techniques. A specific type of bamboo grown in the Kinki region of Japan
